Thirteen (?) riders met at Udder Farm Shop in glorious sunshine, with Phil introducing his wife Claire to the club. Thanks to Dave's advice I'd booked a table which was just as well as the cafe was busy already at 10am. After the obligatory fashion photoshoot (for lycra fetishists) we left more or less on time but minus Lorraine and Jenny and rode through Stour Row, up an annoying little hill in Hartgrove with no arrows on the map - cue some moaning - and then via Child Okeford, Shillingstone and Okeford Fitzpaine to tackle the big climb up Okeford Hill (which deterred Jill and Robin) before descending to Winterborne Strickland for the second big climb over to Milton Abbas. Mary and Phil seemed to be competing to see who could go fastest down the hills - both bonkers-fast! We passed through Milborne St Andrew and into Tolpuddle for lunch at the Martyr's Inn (we are martyrs to our cycling) as Athelhampton Hall was fully booked. Although there was a Sunday carvery there was also a lunch menu and the food was good and served quite quickly. We crossed the A35 in Puddletown and headed back the usual way via Cheselbourne, Melcombe Bingham and Ansty Cross where we split up and I headed home via Hazelbury Bryan and the others rode on towards Okeford Fitzpaine and Hammoon. A lovely scenic ride on a warm sunny day!
